Apple Day

Although the weather prediction is not too good we are still running Apple Day.

The press will be running outside, but there are plenty of indoor activities for everyone to take shelter and watch the apple pressers hard at work!

Our annual Quenington Apple Day is a celebration of the season, our apples and apple trees and our community. This year we will come together in the village hall on

Saturday 21st October 2017 between 2 - 5pm.

The event will feature our ever popular apple press where you can arrive with apples and go home with fresh apple juice.  We can drink apple juice and eat apple cakes together, play apple games and enjoy the creativity of local children who have entered the bee making and colouring competition. We can make our gardens more beautiful and share our favourite plants by joining in the seed swap.  This year Apple Day will feature:

  • Apple pressing. Please note you will need to bring your own containers for the juice, you may need to wait for your turn and you may have others apples mixed with yours, but all those who come with apples will go home with some lovely juice!
  • Cirencester and District Bee Keepers.  To support our Apple Day, the Cirencester & District branch of the Gloucestershire Beekeepers Association will also bee displaying information about beekeeping, the best garden flowers to attract bees. They will also be selling fresh local honey from their bees.
  • Apple juice and apple cakes to try. A small charge will be made for these.
  • Mates cider available to buy and drink.
  • Free children's apple games. Entry forms for the Under 8's Bee Colouring Competition or the 8-11yr old's Bee Model Making Competition can be downloaded here.  (Please note entries must be in by Saturday 21st October NOT 22nd as stated on some forms).
  • Children's bee making and colouring competition. Details in links above or in Coln Village Store.
  • Seed swap. Save seeds from your favourite garden plants to share with others. Please bring single varieties in labelled paper bags.  Details about how to do this are available from the following: QVH Guide (PDF); Real Seed (website); Basic Guide (Word); Technical Guide (Word).

Please come along and join in the fun.

If you would like more information or would like to volunteer to help on the day or donate some apple cakes please contact Ruth Parsons by e-mail ruthparsons@woodland-learning.co.uk
